CMC North
The California Mathematics Council North Section serves pre-K through grade 16 mathematics educators across 34 California counties—from the Oregon border down to Monterey—as well as a few counties in Nevada. As a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, we support high-quality mathematics teaching and learning in public, charter, and private schools across the region.
In keeping with the California Mathematics Council’s mission to ensure that each and every student can become mathematically competent and confident through equitable, rigorous, and challenging programs, CMC North provides opportunities to put that mission into practice locally. Members connect through the annual North Section Conference, held the first weekend of December at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, and through local affiliates that foster collaboration, leadership, and professional growth.
We’re always looking for new members and volunteers! If you’re not yet part of a local affiliate, consider joining to share your expertise through workshops, symposiums, math nights, and other events in your area. Not sure how to start? Affiliates are linked on this page, or simply Contact Us. Interested in volunteering for CMC North events or serving on a committee? We’d love to have you join us!
CMC North Grants & Awards
CMC North encourages creativity and innovation among its member educators in Northern California and Northern Nevada for the purpose of developing mathematically powerful students. Two cycles of grants up to $500 are awarded each year to support a project that supports the needs of your students. The deadlines are March 1 and November 1 of each year. To be eligible, you must be an active CMC member, and reside in the North section.
Dave Logothetti from Santa Clara University was that all too rare combination – a great mathematician and a great mathematics educator; he was very instrumental in developing CMC, especially CMC-North, into the strong viable voice for teachers that it is today. In his memory CMC-North gives each north affiliate an opportunity to be awarded $250. Each affiliate is responsible for volunteering 4 hours during the annual Asilomar Math Conference. This is a wonderful way for the affiliates to become involved in the conference as well as garnering funds for their use to support math activities in their region.
