CMC Central
The California Mathematics Council Central Section serves pre-K through grade 16 mathematics educators across 16 counties—Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne. As a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, we support high-quality mathematics teaching and learning in public, charter, and private schools throughout the region.
Aligned with the California Mathematics Council’s mission to ensure that each and every student can become mathematically competent and confident through equitable, rigorous, and challenging programs, CMC Central provides opportunities to put that mission into practice locally. Members connect through the annual Central Section Symposium, held in early March in Bakersfield, and through local affiliates that foster collaboration, leadership, and professional growth.
We’re always looking for new members and volunteers! If you’re not yet part of a local affiliate, consider joining to share your expertise through workshops, symposiums, math nights, and other events in your area. Not sure how to start? Affiliates are linked on this page, or simply Contact Us. Interested in volunteering for CMC-C events or serving on a committee? We’d love to have you join us!
CMC Central Grants & Awards
Two annual grants honoring Margaret DeArmond, who dedicated her career to supporting mathematics teachers and improving the quality of mathematics education. This award enables two CMC Central Section teachers with fewer than six years of teaching experience to attend the annual Central Mathematics Symposium. The Margaret DeArmond Grant reimburses each of these teachers $500 for the Symposium and provides a one-year CMC membership, including a subscription to the ComMuniCator.
